Check out sales of handcrafted items on Ebay sometime.  Lots of handwork brings almost nothing.  On the other hand some people are making money selling the most unlikely items.  I think the best ones are things that grow wild and can be gathered free in one part of the country/world which have value somewhere else.  

For example, the 12" long pine needles that grow in the southern USA are great for making pine needle baskets.  The 5" long Ponderosa pine needles that grow where I live are much harder to work with.
